A 12-hour relay criterium. At an outdoor go-kart track. The first its kind.
Race format
Each team will have 4 riders. Each rider can ride for as long or as little as they (or their time) would like. Only one rider per team can be carrying the baton AKA riding on course. Baton exchanges will be done in the pit lane.
The team with the most distance covered in 12 hours wins!
There are 3 categories: Open Men, Open Women and Masters.
Race rules
Starting grid / race start
First athletes must arrive at the pit lane (20) minutes prior to the start of the race
Relay exchanges must take place in the pit lane
During relay exchanges riders can, but don’t have to put a foot down
The team’s baton must be on the rider (jersey preferably) representing the team on course
Laps
There is no set amount of laps
A timer is used to signify how much time is left
The length of the race is subject to change at any time per the race director’s discretion
A bell is used to signify the start of the last lap
There are NO free laps for mechanicals or crashes (use your substitutions wisely)
Lapped athletes
Lapped athletes must move out of the way of the race’s leaders
Lapped athletes will not be pulled
Athletes must move out of the race line or into the pit lane in a safe and controlled manner
Athletes refusing to move out of the lapping rider’s way will be penalized
Race stoppage
If the race must be stopped for any reason, the race director and chief referee will warn athletes by via the speaker system and hand gestures
Athletes must line-up before the start/finish line designated by race officials
At the race director’s discretion, the race may not be restarted. If not restarted the results will be scored on the previous complete lap before the race stoppage incident
Athletes must remain calm and cooperate with race officials
Teams may attempt to change riders and/ or equipment during the race stoppage. Race officials will not wait for repairs/ exchanges to be completed before restarting the race
Athletes who do not clear the racing circuit in a timely manner will not be allowed to restart
Athletes who are clearly the cause of the race stoppage will not be allowed to restart (the team can continue with the remaining riders). This will be determined at the Race Directors discretion based on available information
Athletes who are involved in the incident but clear the course quickly may be allowed to restart the race at the Race Directors discretion
Athletes who need prolonged medical attention will not be allowed to restart (a teammate must take over)
Athlete Support Crew may be allowed to attend to athletes at the start/finish line at the Race Directors discretion
Podium
If a team finishes in the top three (3), all 4 riders must report directly to the podium area immediately after the race.
Any athlete arriving late or skipping the podium presentation forfeits all prizes
Race kit is mandatory for the podium
Technical rules
Equipment
Each ride must have their respective seatpost number installed (provided by Crit Rodeo at check-in)
Drop handlebar required
Traditionally spoked wheels required (no TT wheels)
Clipless pedals required
Clincher, Tubular, or Tubeless tires are permitted
Bike mounted cameras are permitted
Reflectors prohibited
Pedal/toe straps prohibited
General recommendations and bike set up notes:
The Crit Rodeo can feature imperfect and dirty circuit surfaces. 28mm or wider tires with sealant for flat protection are recommended
Tubular tires must be properly glued. Tubular tape is not recommended
All components must be in safe mechanical condition. Do not attempt to race with worn out and dangerous parts
The drivetrain (chain, chainring, cassette (/lockring), pedals, shoes, and cleats) must be in top condition
Handlebars must be taped and plugged
Athlete/ team
Apparel:
Cycling helmet (US DOT, CPSC standard, European CEN Certified) required
Cycling jersey and bib shorts or skinsuit (kit) required
Bib number required (provided by Crit Rodeo at check-in)
Athletes must wear kits that match their team identity
Kit design between teammates may feature slight variations but must follow a recognizable team identity
Sleeveless jerseys prohibited
Headphones prohibited
Team rules:
Teams are limited to (4) athletes
Teams with more than (4) athletes must create a B team
A and B teams must have clearly different visual features on their kit and bikes
