A bracket-style, individual criterium crowning the Kings and Queens of the track.

Race format

Each Tournament competitor will compete in a Qualifier race to either advance directly to the Semi-Finals or to a Last Chance Race.
Every registered athlete will receive 2 chances to qualify for the Semi-Finals. Depending on the category, athletes that finish in the top 2 (top 3 in the Women’s category) in their Qualifier advance directly to the Semi-Final. Athletes that place outside the top 2 will advance to a LCR. Athletes that finish top 2 (or 1 in the Open Men’s category) in a LCR will advance to the Final.

Qualifiers

Open Men / Masters / Open Women & Juniors respectively

  • 12 / 5 / 4 qualifiers

  • 96 / 40 / 32 starters

  • 8 starters per qualifier

  • 7 laps

  • FFA placement on qualifier grid

  • Top 2 / 2 / 3 finishers advance directly to the Semi-Finals

  • Positions 2(/3)-8 advance to an Last Chance Race

  • All race rules apply

Last Chance Race

Open Men / Masters / Open Women & Juniors respectively

  • 64 / 24 / 16 starters

  • 8 / 3 / 2 Last Chance Races

  • LCR heat start-lists assigned randomly by race organizers after all qualifiers have finished

  • 7 Laps

  • Top 1 / 2 / 2 finishers advance to the Semi-Finals

  • Athletes are eligible to start in LCR regardless of their Qualifier finishing position

Semi-Finals

Open Men / Masters / Open Women & Juniors / Fixie respectively

  • 32 / 16 / 16 / 16 starters

  • 4 / 2 / 2 / 2 Last Chance Races

  • 7 Laps

  • Top 2 / 4 / 4 / 4 finishers advance to the Final

Finals

Open Men / Masters / Open Women & Juniors / Fixie respectively

  • 8 starters

  • 15 Laps

  • A Prime will be awarded at the end of the 1st lap

Race rules

Starting grid / race start

  • Athletes must arrive at the pit lane (10) minutes prior to the start of their race

  • Athletes must enter the circuit through the pit lane

  • Athletes must start on their exact grid mark. It is each athlete’s responsibility to know in which position they are qualified to start (applicable during semi-finals and finals)

  • Athletes must align their front tire within the grid mark

  • Athletes must not move off their grid mark until the race is started

  • Athletes must start with one foot on the ground

  • Track stands are not permitted

  • Athletes are not permitted to lean on another athlete or the barriers

  • After (30) second warning athletes will be given a (15) second warning. The race may be started at any time during the final (15) seconds on the race directors command

  • All races will have a formation lap prior to the race start

  • The formation lap does not count towards the overall lap count

Laps

  • Each race will be a set amount of laps. The amount of laps will be communicated before the race start

  • A lap counter is used to signify how many laps are left

  • The length of the race is subject to change at any time per the race director’s discretion

  • A bell is used to signify the start of the last lap

  • There are NO free laps for mechanicals or crashes

Lapped athletes

  • Athletes must exit the circuit before they are lapped

  • A chief referee will indicate to the athlete that he/ she is about to be lapped and needs to exit the circuit

  • Athletes must exit the circuit in a safe and controlled manner

  • ONLY the chief referee may signal to athletes that they must exit the course

  • Athletes refusing to exit the circuit will be disqualified and penalized

  • If a solo rider is about to lap the field, the first chase group may be allowed (at the race director’s discretion) to complete the race

  • If the first chase group is allowed to finish the leader will not be permitted to join or pass the chase group. The leader will remain behind the group for the remainder of the race

  • If the first chase group is approached from behind by the leader with more than 3 laps remaining the race director may shorten the race distance and will present the chase group with a minimum of 3 laps to go. Any change in laps will be shown on the lap counter and announced

Race stoppage

  • If the race must be stopped for any reason, the race director and chief referee will warn athletes by via the speaker system and hand gestures

  • Athletes must line-up before the start/finish line designated by race officials

  • At the race director’s discretion, the Qualifier races and the Last Chance Races may not be restarted. If not restarted the results will be scored on the previous complete lap before the race stoppage incident

  • If the race is stopped within the last 3 laps it will be restarted with 3 laps to go

  • Athletes must remain calm and cooperate with race officials

  • Athletes may attempt to change equipment during the red flag. Race officials will not wait for repairs to be completed before restarting the race

  • Athletes who do not clear the racing circuit in a timely manner will not be allowed to restart

  • Athletes who are clearly the cause of the race stoppage will not be allowed to restart. This will be determined at the Race Directors discretion based on available information

  • Athletes who are involved in the incident but clear the course quickly may be allowed to restart the race at the Race Directors discretion

  • Athletes who need prolonged medical attention will not be allowed to restart

  • Athlete Support Crew may be allowed to attend to athletes at the start/finish line at the Race Directors discretion

Podium

  • If an athlete finishes in the top three (3) and/or wins a prime must report directly to the podium area immediately after the finals races.

  • The podium ceremony starts immediately after the finish of the Open Men’s Final race

  • Any athlete arriving late or skipping the podium presentation forfeits all prizes

  • Race kit is mandatory for the podium

Technical rules

Equipment

  • Drop handlebar required

  • Traditionally spoked wheels required (no TT wheels)

  • Clipless pedals required

  • Clincher, Tubular, or Tubeless tires are permitted

  • Bike mounted cameras are permitted

  • Lights and reflectors prohibited

  • Pedal/toe straps prohibited

Extra rules for Fixed-gear category:

  • Track bike required

  • Lock-ring required

  • Brakes prohibited

  • Fixed-gear conversions prohibited

General recommendations and bike set up notes:

  • The Crit Rodeo can feature imperfect and dirty circuit surfaces. 28mm or wider tires with sealant for flat protection are recommended

  • Tubular tires must be properly glued. Tubular tape is not recommended

  • All components must be in safe mechanical condition. Do not attempt to race with worn out and dangerous parts

  • The drivetrain (chain, chainring, cassette (/lockring), pedals, shoes, and cleats) must be in top condition

  • Handlebars must be taped and plugged

Fixed-gear recommendations and bike set up notes:

  • A reasonable gear ratio should be used. Excessively large gear ratios are not recommended

  • The rear wheel must sit entirely in the rear dropout. If it does not you must shorten your chain

  • Make sure your rear wheel is tight

Athlete/ team

Apparel:

  • Cycling helmet (US DOT, CPSC standard, European CEN Certified) required

  • Cycling jersey and bib shorts or skinsuit (kit) required

  • Bib number required (provided by Crit Rodeo at check-in)

  • Athletes must wear kits that match their team identity

  • Kit design between teammates may feature slight variations but must follow a recognizable team identity

  • Athletes are prohibited from wearing ‘championship’ kits from other cycling events

  • Sleeveless jerseys prohibited

  • Headphones prohibited

Team rules:

  • Teams are limited to (6) athletes

  • Teams with more than (6) athletes must create a B team

  • A and B teams must have clearly different visual features on their kit and bikes
